Congratulations to Kelson Elam and team on their Midwinters victory and to the Houston Yacht Club for a fantastic event! With that over, Wayzata Yacht Club and Fleet # 1 are stepping up our planning efforts for the 2006 North American Championship this September.
Our website was put together by Dan Towey and can be found at http://www.j22northamericans.com. Race dates and events are posted, and we will provide updates here as plans progress.
Jon Noller has several key sponsors confirmed, including Sunsets Restaurant and Evergreene Jewelers, and we are in talks with several others to help ensure a first class event.
On the social front, our own Minnesota Vikings raised the bar on us last fall, but Nick Anderson and team are putting together a great schedule of events at various locations around the lake that should ensure a great time for all.
Our Race Management team, headed by PRO Blake Middleton, is ready to go and just waiting for the ice to go out.
Ample housing should be available, and we have also identified two local Marriott properties that will be offering special regatta rates. Details will be posted on the website.
Leading up to the North Americans, we will be hosting two events—the Dave Cool Icebreaker regatta on April 22-23, and the Evergreene Cup / District Championships over Labor Day weekend. These will be great opportunities to enjoy a fun and competitive weekend and check out the local venue. Housing can be arranged for any teams desiring it.
